This automation assists providers in identifying an existing patient record set in Epic.  

  

Many of the largest U.S. providers receive more than 100,000 referrals per year. Identifying referrals as an existing patient prior to creating an appointment is a time consuming process. Now with the availability of the USCDI on FHIR specification, Epic provides an open standard to identify patients within a specific Epic system.
